About Michigan Skills
Built by a Michigan parent who couldn't find it all.
Michigan has an enormous amount of free and low-cost training. The problem is that it's scattered across state agencies, school districts, colleges, unions and employers, and nobody puts it in one place. So we did.
What we do
- Gather it. Every public program, from free virtual courses in grade 6 to apprenticeships for adults, in one guide.
- Explain it. Plain English, with what it costs, who qualifies and the first step.
- Source it. Every fact links to the agency, law or program that publishes it. We never rely on secondhand summaries.
- Keep it current. Rules and dollar amounts change every year. We check them and date every page.
What we're not
Michigan Skills is independent. We are not a state agency, school district or college, and we don't run any of the programs we describe. Always confirm details with the official source before you apply.
How it stays free
Michigan Skills is free for families and job seekers, always. Over time, organizations that want to reach them can become clearly labeled partners. Partners never change the order of the options or what we say about them, and we never sell personal information.
Who's behind it
Michigan Skills was created by Blagica Bottigliero, a Michigan parent and digital strategist. It started with a search for one middle schooler's options that turned up dozens of separate websites, deadlines nobody mentioned and programs most families had never heard of.
