Michigan Reconnect
Michigan Reconnect pays in-district community college tuition for Michigan adults 21 and older who don't have a college degree. It covers associate degrees and skill certificates, including most trades certificates, and pays what's left after Pell and other aid. The age dropped from 25 to 21 in the 2026-27 state budget.

Apply soon if you're 21 to 24. The lower age was set through the state budget, not a permanent change to the law, so it isn't guaranteed past this budget year.
Who qualifies for Michigan Reconnect?
- You're 21 or older when you apply.
- You've lived in Michigan for at least a year.
- You have a high school diploma, GED or certificate of completion. No diploma yet? Start with free adult education.
- You don't have an associate or bachelor's degree.
- You file the FAFSA.
What does Reconnect pay for?
In-district tuition, mandatory fees and contact-hour charges, after Pell and other state aid. It doesn't cover books, supplies, application or graduation fees, or the extra cost of an out-of-district college, where you get a large discount instead. It works for trades certificates like welding, HVAC, electrical technology and CNC machining, as well as associate degrees.
Results so far: more than 250,000 people have applied, nearly 20,000 have graduated and graduates' median pay rose $13,400 a year after finishing.
